Beginner WordPress – Post Categories and Tags
I’d be nice if we told search engines what are article is about and this article is really mostly about oh I don’t know we can come and select and copy this. What is this about? It’s about Lorem Ipsum, it’s about cows, it’s about Steve, it’s about WordPress. I wouldn’t go too crazy but then as soon as you hit enter, you now have tags that help to identify to Google and the other search engines which our article is about. This is extremely important and we are actually going to add to this with a search engine optimization plugin later in the video series but for now we’re just going to keep it at that.
Here’s another extremely important aspect: you want to categorize all of your posts. Google will find your post by category so tell Google what your post is about. We are going to add this to category cows and we are going to uncheck uncategorized and don’t get too spammy with this meaning don’t pick more than 2 or 3. 2 0r 3 good also really cow is really the only thing that I can think of that is a really good…. I mean I guess I could put Lorem Ipsum in there too because the whole thing is on Lorem Ipsum. Alright I’m going to paste that in and I’m going to say add category. So now you can see that it’s categorized as Lorem Ipsum, it’s categorizes cows and same with the tags.
Let’s do one more thing, one more thing underneath a post is an opportunity for somebody to comment if they wish to comment and I believe on the Hello World post that actually already have a comment so I’ll show you what that looks like this, is the whole point of WordPress this is the dynamism of WordPress. Where somebody can come read your content and they can comment on it and then you can reply to their comment, you can have a dialogue; makes it dynamic. And that is really the whole point of Web 2.0.
Okay so I think we’ve beaten the concept of posts to death and in the next video we could talk a little bit more about pages, hope to see you in the next video.
